Aoi River (Kirishima River)
Overview
The “Aoi River” is the striking turquoise section of the Kirishima River at the Shimmoto Bridge’s flood-control dam. It turns vibrant blue due to volcanic minerals from nearby Shinmoedake mixing with the water. Sunlight absorption accentuates blue hues. The site features a scenic walking path, an observation deck facing columnar basalt formations, and the artificial waterfall.
