A massive cliffside carving site with around 200 Buddhist sculptures spanning 20 m in height and 400 m in length—one of Japan’s largest and oldest stone-carved Buddhist sites from the late Heian to Meiji era.
Notable pieces include the 12 m tall “Great Gorintō” (five-ring stupa), the “Gatsurin Dai-Bonji” carved in 1264, and various stupas, engravings, sculptures, and Sanskrit characters spanning multiple centuries.
The site is set within scenic Iwaya Park along the Manose River, complemented by outdoor facilities like playgrounds and the Sakura-no-Yakata cafe/viewpoint
