Marine Port Kagoshima is the prefecture’s main cruise terminal, opened in 2007 on an artificial island in Chūōkō Shinmachi. Able to dock mega cruise ships (up to ~160,000 t), it features a lush grassy plaza and a 1 km “Shiokaze 1000” running track—ideal for strolling, jogging, picnicking, or events. The waterfront splash area, active in summer, includes fountains and water-play space for kids.
From the main promenade and floating pier (built 2019), visitors can enjoy spectacular views of Sakurajima Volcano across Kinko Bay—cruise ships entering frame add dramatic flair. Scatterings of Kagoshima’s mascot “Guribu” are hidden in nine pathway bricks—try finding them all!. The terminal includes CIQ facilities (customs, immigration, quarantine), making it a key entry point for international tourism.
